GTO Dress

GTO outdoor tasks are carried out in a specific dress code known as the GTO Dress, which includes white shorts, a white collared T-shirt, white socks, and PT or sports shoes—preferably in white. In simple terms, you need to wear an all-white outfit, and it’s recommended that your T-shirt has a collar.

Some of you might say that your T-shirt has a colored stripe, or your shorts or shoes aren’t exactly white. In that case, we strongly recommend that you invest in new ones. Gentlemen, you are going to appear for the SSB Interview—an opportunity that many only dream of. You’ve earned this chance, so make sure you give it your absolute best.

Wearing anything other than the specified white T-shirt, shorts, socks, or sports shoes may not draw immediate criticism, and no one may say anything directly. However, remember—at SSB, the GTO doesn’t speak much; his pen does. By not adhering to a clearly stated dress code, you silently signal that you’re not ready to follow basic instructions, which goes against the very principles expected in the Armed Forces.

The choice is yours, but our sincere advice is to follow the prescribed dress code without exceptions. Show that you’re disciplined, prepared, and truly deserving of the uniform.

If you wear glasses, make sure they are secure during the tasks, as losing them can create unnecessary difficulties for you.

The Choice is yours whether to take White You can wear PT shoes or sports shoes, but we recommend sports shoes as they offer better comfort and support during running and physical tasks.

While most Service Selection Boards have shops where you can buy these items, the prices are usually high and stock is often limited or unavailable.

Note – It’s advisable to carry two sets of each clothing item—except for shoes, one pair is sufficient. On the first day of GTO tasks, your clothes are likely to get dirty. While washing and drying them might be manageable in summer, it becomes difficult during the rainy or winter seasons.

If you carry two white T-shirts, two pairs of white shorts, and two pairs of white socks, you can stay fresh and neat on both GTO days. Looking clean and presentable not only boosts your confidence but may also earn you positive attention.

Ultimately, the choice is yours—whether to pack a single set or carry spares. But being well-prepared always gives you an edge.

Avoid wearing brand-new shoes or clothes for the SSB Interview, as they often need time to break in. Make sure to wear your shoes for several days beforehand so they feel comfortable and well-fitted. You should feel relaxed and at ease in whatever you wear.
