SSC Tech or Short Service Commission Technical Course of Indian Army is for Engineering Graduates who are willing to join Indian Army as an officer. This entry is notified for both Men and Women having an engineering degree. Candidates have to apply in response to the advertisement and thereafter Indian Army shortlists the candidates for ssb interview and those candidates who get recommended will be examined for medical fitness and finally an all India merit list is prepared and those who find a place in merit list are then taken into the prestigious Officers’ Training Academy Chennai for 49 Weeks training. Age 20 to 27 years
Gender Male and Female
Nationality A candidate must be either be : (i) A citizen of India, or (ii) A subject of Bhutan, or (iii) A subject of Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian Origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of Permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by Government of India, Certificate of eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
Educational Qualification Candidates should have passed the requisite Engineering Degree course or be in the final year of Engineering Degree course are eligible to apply.
Final Year Candidates The candidates in the final year of Degree course should complete all their examinations related to the degree, like final exams, practicals, viva – voce, projects, backlogs etc prior to starting of SSC Tech course. They should be able to produce the Engineering Degree within 12 weeks from the date of commencement of training at OTA Chennai. Such candidates will be inducted on Additional Bond Basis for recovery of the cost of training at OTA as notified from time to time as well as stipend and pay & allowance paid, in case they fail to produce the requisite Degree Certificate within the specified time.
Cut off Percentage Indian Army reserves the right to shortlist applications and to fix cut off percentage of marks.
Written Exam There is no written exam conducted for this entry. Candidates are shortlisted as per their Percentage of marks scored in degree course (B.Tech/B.E.).
Physical Standards
Height & Weight The minimum acceptable height and weight for men is 157.5 cms with correlated weight and for women candidate is 152 cm and 42kg. In case of candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height will be relaxed by 5 cms and weight commensurate with reduced height. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height can be relaxed by 2 cms.
Visual Standards Distance vision (Corrected): Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/18. Myopia should not be more than -3.5D and hypermetropia not more than +3.5D including Astigmation. Internal examination of the eye will be done by means of ophalmoscope to rule out any disease of the eye. A candidate must have good binocular vision. The colour vision standard will be CP-III (Defective Safe). Candidates should be able to recognize white, red and green signal colors correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at a distance of 1.5 meters or read the requisite plate of Ishihara Book/Tokyo Medical College Book. Candidates who have undergone or have evidence for having undergone Radial Karatotomy to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected. In order to detect PRK/LASIK all the candidates at SMD will be subjected to the measurement of Axial length by A-Scan bio meter. Candidates who have undergone LASER Surgery for correction of refractive error will be considered for commission in Army if they fulfill following criteria : (i) Age more than 20 years. (ii) Uncomplicated stable LASIK/Excimer (PRK) laser procedure done for Myopia or Hypermetropia, with stable refraction for a period of six months after the procedure. (iii) A healthy retina. (iv) Corrected vision should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in worse eye, with maximum residual refraction of +1.50 in any meridian for myopia or hypermetropia. (v) Axial length within permissible limits.
Permanent Body Tattoos Permanent Body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm i.e. from inside of the elbow to wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hands. The permanent body on any other part of the body is not acceptable and the candidate will be barred from further selection. However, Tribes with tattoos on the face will be acceptable depending on person to person.
Training Duration 49 Week at OTA, Chennai

Indian Army notifies the eligible branch of engineering in the advertisement of SSC Tech (Men) and SSC Tech (Women). Candidates having the degree in the notified engineering discipline would be eligible for selection.

    • Class 12th Candidates are eligible for NDA exam. More importantly, the exact eligibility criterion will be mentioned in the Notification.

  6. hello sir, my cumulative percentage of 6 semesters is 57.62% in computer science engg and ssc tech 52 cut off came 60% , will i be able to give ssb, because i applied for it.. and dont know when the dates will be noified.
    Also wanted to know that does the date selection link has already provided or not for ssc tech men-52.
    Please reply as soon as possible.
