National Defence Academy Exam

National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA) is a written exam conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) twice in a year. This exam is conducted for commission in Army, Navy and Air Force, as per the Schedule (Tentative) notification for the first exam comes in the month of December and exam takes place in the month of April and the notification for the second exam is published in May and exam takes place in the month of August.

Candidates passing the written exam are called for SSB Interview and those who clear SSB Interview are then sent for medicals and finally, all India merit list is prepared by the commission, those who are in merit are allowed to join National Defence Academy.

Eligibility Criteria

Age – 16½ – 19½ Years
Educational Qualifications –

  1. For Army Wing of NDA – 12th Class pass on 10+2 pattern, or equivalent.
  2. For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA – 12th Class pass on 10+2 pattern with Physics and Mathematics, or equivalent.

Pattern

Syllabus

Mathematics (Code No. 01) – 120 Questions300 Marks – 2 Hr 30 Min – (-0.825) Wrong Answer

The question in Mathematics paper will be based on Algebra, Matrices, and Determinants, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry of two and three Dimensions, Differential calculus, Integral Calculus and Differential equations, Vector Algebra, Statistics, and Probability.

General Ability Test (Code No. 02) – 150 Questions600 Marks – 2 Hr 30 Min – (-1.32) Wrong Answer

The General Ability Test is in two parts Part “A” – English and Part “B” – General Knowledge.

Part “A” – English200 Marks

The question paper in English will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. The syllabus covers various aspects like Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension, and cohesion in extended text to test the candidate’s proficiency in English.

Part “B” – General Knowledge400 Marks

Section A (Physics), Section B (Chemistry), Section C (General Science), Section D (History, Freedom Movement etc.), Section E (Geography), Section F (Current Events).

Note – Out of maximum marks assigned to part B of this paper, questions on Sections A, B, C, D, E, and F will carry approximately 25%, 15%, 10%, 20%, 20% and 10% weight ages respectively.

Each paper is objective in nature i.e. each question will have four alternatives and you have to mark the correct answer on your answer sheet, there will be negative marking of one third (1/3) Marks for every wrong answer.
