Eyesight

Eyes are one of the important organs in our body. Eyes are almost the most important part of our lives; even you are able to read this page because of your eyes. So proper vision standard is the utmost requirement of India Defence forces. Maximum permissible vision defects differ from force to force like for a fighter pilot there would be no compromise in case of eye defects.

For a candidate to be declared fit he/she must possess eyesight within the permissible limit and also there should be no Night Blindness, Squint or Colour blindness.

Visual Standards for IAF

If there is a strong family history of Myopia, particularly if it is established that the visual Defect is recent, if physical growth is still expected, or if the fundus appearance is suggestive of progressive Myopia, even if the visual acuity is within the limit prescribed, the candidate should be declared unfit.

Radial Keratotomy, Photo Refractive Keratotomy / Laser in Situ Keratomileusis (PRK/LASIK) surgeries for correction of refractive errors are not permitted for any air force Duties. Corneal Topography may be done in suspected cases. Candidates having undergone cataract surgery With or without IOL implants will also be declared unfit.

IAF has different visual standards for different branches. Check below the eyesight limits for different branches of IAF.
