Royal Australian Air Force Rank Structure

Royal Australian Air Force or RAAF is a primary air defence force of Australia. RAAF was formed on 31st March 1921 and since then RAAF has proved its mettle at various occasions such as Berlin Airlift, Vietnam War, Korean War. RAAF is one of the highly precise, sophisticated, powerful and technologically advanced Air Force in the World.

With an inspiring Motto of Per Ardua ad Astra which means Through Adversity to the Stars RAAF has safeguarded the Australian air territory for almost 100 years as of now.

The Rank Structure of Australian Air Force is based on the rank structure of Royal Air Force. One unique feature about the RAAF Ranks is that the abbreviations are always written in Uppercase and without space, for example, Air Commodore is written as AIRCDRE.

The Head of the RAAF is a 3-Star Air Marshal however if the chief of Defence force of Australia is from RAAF then he/she is awarded the Rank of Air Chief Marshal.

The Marshal of the Royal Australian Air Force is an honorary rank and currently held by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
